Do Amazon Employees Get Free Prime?
Unfortunately, the answer is no. Amazon employees do not get free Prime. Prime is a paid membership program that gives customers access to free two-day shipping, streaming services, and other benefits. The cost of a Prime membership is $99 per year or $10.99 per month.
While Amazon employees do not get free Prime, they do get a 10% discount on the annual membership fee. They also get discounts on other products and services sold by Amazon, such as Kindle books, music, and video.
Keep in mind that only US-based employees are eligible for the Amazon employee discount. If you’re not a US-based employee, you won’t be able to get the discount.
Even though Amazon employees don’t get free Prime, they still get a lot of other great benefits. These benefits include health insurance, 401k matching, paid time off, and more.
So, while Amazon employees don’t get free Prime, they still get a lot of other great benefits that make working at Amazon a great experience.
So, while Amazon employees don’t get free Prime, they do get some pretty sweet discounts. If you’re considering a job at Amazon, those discounts may be worth considering as well.
What Perks Do Amazon Employees Get?
While the company is notoriously secretive, we did some digging to find out what kinds of perks Amazon employees can expect. Here’s what we found.
1. Employee Discounts:
All Amazon employees receive a discount on Amazon products—including Kindle devices, textbooks, and, of course, those all-important Amazon Prime memberships. The employee discount is especially helpful for international employees, who can save on shipping costs by taking advantage of the free two-day shipping that comes with Prime.
2. Career Development Opportunities:
Amazon is dedicated to career development, offering programs like “Amazon Career Choice” which pre-pays 95% of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields like nursing and transportation engineering. The company also offers on-site job shadowing and mentorship opportunities so that employees can learn new skills and explore different parts of the business.
3. Generous Parental Leave Policies:
Amazon offers employees up to 20 weeks of paid leave for new mothers and up to 6 weeks of paid leave for new fathers. The company also provides flexible work options for parents who need to balance child-rearing with their careers.
4. Free Food (and Snacks):
On-site cafeterias are a staple at many tech companies, and Amazon is no exception. The company goes above and beyond by offering free breakfast and lunch to employees at its Seattle headquarters—and snacks are always free, thanks to an ever-stocked kitchen pantry. For those days when you just can’t make it to the cafeteria, there’s also a complimentary food delivery service for Amazon employees.
5. On-site Gym and Healthcare Centre:
Want to stay fit without dealing with gym crowds? No problem! Amazon provides on-site gyms at many of its locations so that employees can work out before or after their shifts (or even during their lunch break). There’s also an on-site healthcare centre at Amazon’s Seattle headquarters, which offers primary care, dental care, and mental health services—all at no cost to employees.
6. Competitive wage paid weekly:
Amazon employees are paid a competitive wage, and they receive their paychecks weekly. This allows them to budget and plan for their expenses in a way that works for them.
On average, Amazon employees earn an hourly wage of $15.24, which is slightly above the $15 per hour minimum wage that the company has pledged to pay all of its employees by 2021.
7. Overtime for more than 40 hours:
In addition to their regular hourly wage, Amazon employees who work more than 40 hours in a week are eligible for overtime pay. This means that they will receive 1.5 times their regular hourly wage for any hours worked over 40 in a week.
8. Voluntary extra time:
In addition to overtime, Amazon employees can also choose to work extra hours beyond their regular schedule. These extra hours are voluntary, and they are paid at the same rate as regular hours.
9. 401(k) retirement savings plan:
All Amazon employees are eligible to participate in the company’s 401(k) retirement savings plan. This plan allows employees to save for retirement on a tax-deferred basis, which can help them to maximize their savings.
10. Adoption Assistance:
Amazon employees who adopt children can receive up to $5,000 in reimbursement for adoption-related expenses. This benefit is available to both single and married employees, and it can be used for domestic or international adoptions.
11. Employee Assistance Program:
All Amazon employees have access to the company’s Employee Assistance Program, which provides confidential counseling and support for a variety of personal and work-related issues. This program is free of charge for employees, and it can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
12. Paid Time Off:
In addition to parental leave, Amazon employees also receive paid time off for vacation, sick days, and holidays. This allows them to take the time they need to recharge and enjoy their personal lives outside of work.
